The above was written onto the ‘Wall’; the expressions of many thousands of volunteers regarding the Olympics and their potential contribution
There have been commercial positions that took my interest in relation to the Olympics but the appeal, if not as an athlete or a coach, for me is to contribute as a volunteer. I feel that this says more to me about what the Games should be about, giving, rather than taking, sharing rather than exploiting.
I was struck by the commercialisation of the Games even here, with Cadbury’s and MacDonald’s sponsors of the recruitment and training of 3,500 people. I appreciate the need for this support, both financial and in expertise.
Commerce makes the world go round. Without it there can be no Olympics.
