Plato’s Symposium

People were hermaphrodites until God split them in two and now all the halves wander the world over seeking one another. Love is the longing for the half of ourselves we have lost.’

As I naïve 13 year old I believed love was just this, a quest for a soul mate, for another half. I wonder if being balanced halves is likely to lead to a successful marriage, often in balance works better, the bread winning husband with a wife who works is a model that has worked for centuries.

(it is for me, we have split everything, so I can have househusband on my CV for a five year stint, I shop, cook, do the ironing and fix the fence and car and do the recycling. I never dare buy the children’s clothes. I put the washing in the basket and get it on thr line but rarely do the machine bit and it amazes me how it doesn’t stay in the line for weeks. I dig, prune and compost, but don’t weed. We both forget to put petrol in the car).
