I know my family; we do brunch. This was a roast ham and poached cod for the not-so-vegetarian. There is now ample time to take a walk along the River Ouse in day light. Parma ham to start, sprouts and chestnuts, roast potatoes crisper in goose fat and a fruit salad. Unfortunately the nasty cold I have has spread, so two of us are feeling bunged up, in my case a scratchy cough that is hard to stop once I get going. Perhaps a few chapters of Steve Jobs before Dr Who will do.
Pyjamas, Steve Jobs and a medi-vac with which to attack house-mites. And a polo shirt from INSEAD as their 1,000th follower on Twitter. In 1987 I had three choices: buy a flat in Clapham, apply to INSEAD or take the place offered to me at advertising’s School of Communication Arts. On reflection the flat would have been by far the best move financially as I would have also taken the TV Producer position being offered. I went to the SCA but didn’t follow up with a copywriter place at an Ad agency despite being offered such a position with a tiny TV based agency.
Passion above all else? Drive? Resilliance?
The OU Student at Christmas. At my desk, the house asleep. A few hours distracted reading the posts of fellow OU students who have been posting since 12.03 this morning. Nothing onerous, I have notes to post on B822 ‘Creativity, Innovation and Change’ in preparation for a Residential School in the second week of January and a Tutor Marked Assignment to deliver in early February. The challenge is to apply creative problem solving techniques to a real business problem. The temptation is to go for something big, the realist would take something manageable.
Meanwhile, the oven is already on, to bake some pain au chocolat and in due course to take a ham from Tannings Farm, here in Sussex.
Jack walks down from Consett to Benfieldside with his mate Steve Barron. Its been a busy day as poor weather has delayed some order making it to the various pubs of the Northeastern Brewery. For much of the morning Jack sat by the phone taking calls and relaying messages to the office. He’s 14 and a half, he’s been at the Royal Hotel since August. He lives at home with his father, the Chauffeur and general factotum to JGMurray at Benfieldside House and his mother and his younger brothers Billy 12, and Spencer 7.
