Memory – a fascinating and inspired starting point to understand how we remember and what our digital world can do to help or hinder. As a diarist I have thousands of days recorded over 35 years, a portion of it in blog form (since September 1999). The learning blog as an OU postgraduate student runs to 1,500+ pages is an invaluable resource. Yet the only phone numbers I remember are home as a boy decades ago and our current home phone – anything else I refer to contacts on the phone.
There’s a good deal that is missing here – not least research by Microsoft to record everything one does in a day and have computer algorithms turn this into a resource … if Google can create a self- drive car, can Microsoft produce the self-storing mind?
